Java ME to Android Conversion Offerings
Tira Wireless Extends 'Go Mobile' Solution to Support Android Platform

Digg This!

Tira Wireless unveiled new development and porting services that extend its mobile platform support beyond Java ME, BREW and smartphone platforms to include the Android platform built by the Open Handset Alliance.

The Tira Services group is now offering development services to new and existing clients that plan to create content for Android-based devices. These services are ideal for organizations with limited internal development resources or those that require the scalability that Tira Wireless provides. By offering Android application development, Tira Wireless customers can be assured titles will be ready for deployment when Android devices become available later this year.

Over the past five years, Tira Wireless has ported 600 titles across 1,600 devices and 130 mobile operators around the globe, for a total of over 30,000 SKUs. Using its unmatched experiential knowledge of the mobile market, the company is now also providing porting services to convert existing Java ME titles to the Android platform. This is Tira Wireless' initial offering for content developers in support of the Android platform. By using Tira Wireless' development and conversion offerings, content providers can more easily generate revenues from the Android platform by widening the reach of existing applications to Android handset users, or developing new services optimized for Android enabled handsets.

"Tira Wireless' move to support Android is in line with our vision to support the major platforms and manage all elements of the mobile content lifecycle, regardless of the device or mobile operator," said Juan Dewar, CEO of Tira Wireless. "Supporting the Android platform is also a natural extension of the work we have been doing with Java ME applications. Because of our years of experience in this market, we are very well positioned to understand the challenges of developing mobile content in a similar environment, and as a result, can maximize Android's unique capabilities."

Tira Wireless currently supports the development and deployment of mobile content to more than 2,650 Java ME and BREW-based devices offered by manufacturers such as Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, and LG; as well as the BlackBerry and Windows Mobile smartphone platforms.

Using My HDTV as a Second Monitor
During my last trip to Best Buy, on a whim I picked up a DVI-to-HDMI connector (male DVI, female HDTV). This little doohickey plugs into the side of my Macbook Pro and then I plug the HDMI cable into that. I run the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDTV and I get something that is

It seems as though whenever I bring up PNRP and its benefits, I am immediately inundated with a list of questions or comments indicating that Microsoft is re-inventing the wheel and that PNRP has already been implemented before in the form of ZeroConf and, more specifically, Apple's im
